Reaction Time Test
Measure your reaction time in milliseconds and fall distance in centimeters by catching a dropping stick
Features
Measure by catching a falling stick
Displays fall distance in cm and reaction time in milliseconds simultaneously
6-tier animal classification
Classifies your average across 5 attempts from Fly-level to Sloth-level and compares with human average
False start detection and personal best
Early taps require a retry, and your highest average is saved to your device
Share to X and toggle between cm and inch
Paste results text to your post, and switch distance units to inches
How to Use
Tap the reaction area to start
Press the area where the stick hangs once to enter standby mode
Catch the stick as soon as it drops
Press by tap, click, or spacebar the moment the stick begins to fall
Catch 5 times and check results
Your average distance and reaction time, animal tier, and human average are displayed
Share or try again
Share on X or copy results to share, or retry to measure again

Use Cases
Try the ruler drop test alone
Try the ruler drop test you learned in school without a ruler or partner
Compete on tier and speed with friends and family
Take turns measuring and compare your animal tiers and average speeds
Check your form before games or sports
Confirm your reaction performance with numbers before starting
Compare with sleep deprivation or fatigue
Compare your usual times with your reaction when sleep-deprived or tired
Knowledge Base
What is a reaction time test (ruler drop test)?
The ruler drop test is a method of measuring response speed by having someone release a ruler and catching it with your finger, then calculating reaction speed from the distance the ruler falls before you catch it.
- How this tool measures:This tool measures the time in milliseconds from when the stick on screen starts falling until you press, and converts it to the distance a real ruler would fall and displays it.
Formula for calculating reaction time from fall distance
Since rulers fall freely, the fall distance (cm) is calculated by 0.5 × 980.665 × reaction time (seconds) squared.
- Conversion example from reaction time:If reaction time is 0.2 seconds, fall distance is about 19.6cm; at 0.25 seconds, about 30.6cm. Even a slight delay in reaction significantly increases the fall distance.
- Calculate reaction time from distance:To find reaction time from fall distance, take the square root of (fall distance in cm × 2 ÷ 980.665) to get the time in seconds.
Average reaction time and animal reference
For visual stimulus response, human reaction time is generally considered to be 0.2–0.3 seconds, and this tool displays 250ms as the average human reaction time.
- Animal tier reference guide:Animal tiers are a guide for enjoying results: 150ms or less is Fly-level, 200ms or less is Cat-level, 240ms or less is Dog-level, 280ms or less is Human-level, 350ms or less is Turtle-level, and anything slower is Sloth-level.
- How to improve reaction time:Reaction time may improve by getting enough sleep, practicing sports like ball games that require quick responses to signals, and repeating the same test to build familiarity.
