How to Use
Select announcement interval
Choose from 1, 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes. Default is 15 minutes

What the 117 time service announces
117 is a time announcement service number in Japan that provides the current time by voice when called from a landline. It announces the time every 10 seconds, and a time signal sound immediately after indicates the second mark precisely.
- Why seconds are announced:For setting clocks, minute information alone is insufficient, so 117 uses audio to mark the exact second.
- Difference from audio reading:Browser text-to-speech has a slight delay before speaking, making it unsuitable for second-precise timing.
Why computer and smartphone clocks drift
Device clocks count time using internal crystal oscillators, which drift slightly due to temperature and individual variations. Most devices use time synchronization (NTP) to align with external time servers, removing this drift.
- Time synchronization (NTP):A system that distributes accurate time over the network, correcting by treating half the round-trip communication time as the one-way delay.
- When drift becomes larger:Devices not connected to the network for long periods or with manually set times are more prone to significant drift.

Server-side processing
Input is processed on the server; only information necessary for the inquiry is sent.
Temporary processing only
For Obtaining accurate current time, temporary processing occurs on the server, then data is discarded after results are returned.
