Knowledge Base
What is a collage?
A collage is a composition made by combining multiple photos or materials on one canvas. The term comes from the French word "coller," which means "to glue." In photo collages, multiple photos are arranged in grid or mixed-size layouts and displayed as a single image.
How to choose aspect ratio
Aspect ratio is the proportion between the width and height of an image. Choosing a ratio close to your display area reduces cropping at the edges when displayed.
- 1:1 (Square):A 1:1 ratio creates a square where width and height are equal, making it easy to arrange photos evenly whether they are landscape or portrait oriented
- 4:3 and 3:4:4:3 matches the aspect ratio of most smartphones and digital cameras, preserving the original look of photos
- 16:9 and 9:16:16:9 is the widescreen ratio used by TVs and computer monitors. 9:16 is the portrait ratio of smartphone screens
Why are the edges of photos cropped?
When the aspect ratio of the frame differs from the photo, cropping occurs if the photo is enlarged to fill the frame. For example, a 4:3 landscape photo placed in a square frame will have approximately 25% of its width cropped from the left and right sides combined
