What is a Pixel
A pixel is the smallest colored dot that makes up a digital image. Image size is expressed as the number of pixels in width × height. The more pixels an image has, the more detailed it is, but the larger its file size becomes.
Why Image Quality Degrades When Enlarged
Enlarging an image involves filling in missing pixels by inferring colors from surrounding areas. Since information that wasn't originally present cannot be created, blurring and jagged edges occur. Reduction simply removes information, so degradation is less noticeable. For this reason, resizing is best used in the reduction direction.
