What happens to PDF size and image quality after merging?
Merging PDFs copies the content of each page into a new file, so the merged file size is approximately the sum of the original files. If you merge a 2MB and 3MB PDF, the result is about 5MB. Since pages are not recreated as images, the quality of text and images remains unchanged after merging.
Why can't password-protected PDFs be merged directly?
Password-protected PDFs have encrypted content that cannot be accessed without the correct password to decrypt it. Therefore, such files are treated as non-mergeable in the list, and the encryption must be removed first.
- User password：A user password is required when opening the PDF and prevents the file from being viewed at all when set.
- Owner password：An owner password restricts only certain operations like printing or editing pages. The file can be viewed, but pages cannot be extracted.
