Basic Knowledge

Difference between km/L and L/100km

Japan expresses fuel efficiency as "how many kilometers can be driven per liter" (km/L), while Europe uses "how many liters are needed to drive 100km" (L/100km). These are reciprocal relationships. For example, 20km/L is exactly equivalent to 5L/100km.

What is MPG (Miles Per Gallon)?

MPG is a fuel efficiency unit used in the US and UK, measuring "how many miles can be driven per gallon". Although both use MPG, the US gallon (approximately 3.785L) and the Imperial gallon (approximately 4.546L) have different volumes, so the values cannot be directly compared between the two countries.

Fuel Cost Calculation Formula

Fuel cost can be estimated using the formula: "distance traveled ÷ fuel efficiency × price per liter of fuel". For example, if a car with 15km/L fuel efficiency travels 300km, the fuel consumed is 300 ÷ 15 = 20L.
