Basic Knowledge

What is Newton (N)?

Newton is the unit of force in the International System of Units (SI). 1 N is the force that gives an acceleration of 1 m per second squared to a 1 kg mass. On Earth, this is equivalent to the gravitational force acting on an object of approximately 102 g.

Difference Between SI Units and Gravitational Units

The unit of force exists in two systems: SI's N and the gravitational unit system's kgf (kilogram-force), which is defined as 1 kgf = 9.80665 N. In older drawings and tool specification sheets, the notations kgf and kgf·m are still in use.
