What is Traceroute

Traceroute is an investigation method that sequentially lists the routers that communication passes through from your location to the destination server. It is used to determine whether the cause of "slow site" issues is on your end, in the network path, or on the server side.

What is a Hop

A hop is a unit of measurement that counts each router traversal along the route. As a rough guideline, domestic sites typically have around 10 hops, while international sites often exceed 20 hops. Response time and hop count together help you understand the characteristics of the network path.
