DNS Record Lookup

Check the DNS records of a domain name

Features

Supports 8 record types

Select and retrieve A, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME, and more

Batch check up to 10 domains

Look up multiple line-separated entries in parallel to save time

Specify the DNS server to query

Specify any DNS server IP to retrieve the answer

Supports reverse lookup from an IP

Enter an IP address to retrieve the host name from the PTR record

How to use

1

Enter the domain name or IP

Enter the domain name or IP address to check, specifying up to 10 entries at once, separated by line breaks

2

Select the record types

Check only the types you want to retrieve, and optionally specify the IP of the server to query in the DNS server field

3

Run the lookup with the Check button

Press the Check button to query DNS on the server side and display results for each domain

4

Review and copy the record values

Open the accordion for each domain and copy each record value with the copy button

DNS Record Lookup

Use cases

Checking propagation after a server migration

After changing settings, check periodically while waiting for the new values to take effect

Investigating mail delivery failures

Inspect MX and TXT records, including SPF, for misconfigurations or omissions

Isolating issues during a site outage

When a site won't load, verify name resolution to determine whether DNS is the cause

Routine inspection of domain settings

Look up the NS and CNAME records of multiple domains together to detect unintended changes

Investigating suspicious access sources

Reverse-lookup an IP address found in logs to identify the host name of the source

Basic Knowledge

What is DNS Propagation (Waiting for Updates)?

DNS configuration changes don't take effect immediately because cache DNS servers worldwide continue to serve old responses for the duration of the TTL (Time To Live, the cache validity period). This is colloquially called "propagation," but it's actually the phenomenon of each server's cache expiring one by one.

Common Types of DNS Records

  • A Record:An A record is a DNS record that maps a domain name to an IPv4 address, indicating which server hosts the site.
  • MX Record:An MX record is a DNS record that specifies which server will receive email for that domain, with priority levels assigned.
  • TXT Record:A TXT record is a DNS record that can contain arbitrary text and is used for sender domain authentication such as SPF and for verifying site ownership.

How to Check Propagation Faster

By querying the authoritative DNS server that manages the domain directly, bypassing the cache, you can verify whether the configuration change has taken effect without waiting for propagation.

Safety and privacy

Server-side processing

Input is processed on the server; only information necessary for the inquiry is sent.

Temporary processing only

For DNS record lookups, temporary processing occurs on the server, then data is discarded after results are returned.

Communications encrypted with HTTPS

All sent and received data is encrypted by TLS and cannot be read by third parties.

No transmission to third parties

Input content is not sent to external services such as ad networks or trackers.

Sent only to DNS servers

The domain or IP you enter is sent only to DNS servers for record lookups.
